"ohio legislature poised to pass the 'safe harbor act'"
The Ohio House recently passed a bill that would strengthen their sex and labor trafficking laws. The bill primarily focuses on trafficking of minors. Purchasing sex from a 13 to 16 year old will be a felony, minors with prostitution records can have their record expunged when they become an adult, and it creates a hotline for victims to get help.

President Obama helps keep trafficking in the news and gain more awareness by dedicating January 2012 U.S. anti-trafficking month. In a statement he states that this issue knows no borders and affects people of all ages, no matter if man or woman.

google gives $11.5 million to anti-trafficking groups
Google gives $11.5 million in grants to 10 anti-trafficking organizations, out of the $40 million it is donating during December. This article highlights the donation to the International Justice League (IJM) and areas the money will go to. It is estimated the grant will free about 12,000 slaves and prevent millions more from becoming a slave.

Women Hold Up Half the Sky is an art show showing in Los Angeles until March 2012. It has 3 sections, trafficking, maternal health and gender violence. The trafficking section brings light to the issue as it pertains to the first world.

house committee on foreign affairs passes amendment to trafficking act
The amendment is an addition to the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act that will encourage companies to check into their supply chain practices and ensure that they are free of slavery.
